Over-used Words such as 'Passionate' and 'Exciting' make me stop reading | Post 6
'Exciting' and 'Passionate', these two words seem to be over-used, across the media and the platforms. Personally, I quit reading an article or watching any video, the moment I notice these two words in them; maybe it is just me, who knows.
There are so many other ways to express similar sentiments:
- I strongly believe in xyz- I find xyz amazing- xyz is the most brilliant thing- I love xyz idea- xyz has a great potential for solving pqr, so I have dedicated my life for xyz- I always prefer xyz- xyz has been my greatest inspiration- Fully committed to xyz
- Definitely, I will pursue xyz throughout my life without any second thoughts
Exciting or Passionate, I wonder how many more words (akin to these two) are being over-used to the degree... that the content gives a weird discomfort to the content consumers or the target audience.
Maybe it's either a lack of creativity or literally, some form of laziness. Regardless of whether done with intentions or out of a habit, I would still love to read and watch the full content if such 'frequently used words' are avoided completely, or their occurrence is in the final parts only - not in the very opening parts.
The Good Side of Synonyms and Rephrasing
Every word has its own history, but the poets as well as the writers, make use of the different words, in almost every piece of work that was manifested, due to their immense creativity, and their intense enthusiasm (another substitute word for 'passion', perhaps?)
Why is there so much diversity, in their craft? Seriously, why?
As it happens, you might have a Pinterest account, just like my one. One of the trending ideas on that platform is nothing else, but the alternative (and often, juicier) ways of expressing your emotions, or the written descriptions.
Synonyms are not for just the answers in the exams, and if you have ever tried, to be a poet, essay-writer or a personal journal keeper (it's the greatest healer in this universe), that knowledge could be enough, for proving that, the blog writers are only going rise in the numbers.
Don't believe me? Check the dates of the questions, I have answered on Quora.
Back to the section topic, those words which had the same meaning were not being used just for creating the rhyming words effect; although the rhyming schemes, and their categorisation is much more diverse, as nicely introduced by the MasterClass's articles.
The Differing words might differ by a letter or two,
and whether it is English, or any other language, known to you;
the words with the same appearances, as written on the cream-wove paper,
or on the eye-caring Sepia screens, might dance in a dissimilar manner,
when your tongue knocks your teeth,
borrowing the longitudinal waves, from the neighbourhood, of your larynx underneath.
Yes, that is how you got the opportunity,
to witness the unprofessional poetry,
by me,
titled as the Poem One,
and Poem Two,
on this blog, SummaryMaster, fifty-one "V."
See that?
Just read, and explore,
The literature, and the folklore,
the awesome, and the wholesome,
the admirable, and the amicable,
the astonishing, and the replenishing,
to come up with that yet unrealised ideation,
which needs your underutilised, power of creation.
Oh, yes; let's return to the Synonyms, and pause the Rhyming Schemes
Synonyms, add a unique flavour to your piece. Whether you read it, within the quiet confinements, or under the care of a tree, silently or loudly.
Rephrasing could assist you, in differentiating yourself from others.
And if you still remember, what we were taught about Self-plagiarism, back in our academic sanctuary; even when repurposing your post, like for Medium or Tumblr accounts, you know the significance of not sounding 'monotonous' or a pedant reciter of the pre-existing content, that's already published on the other contributions' avenues.
Thus, rewriting matters, as much as the mathematical taglines, such as 'Rearranging the terms, without changing the equilibrium'. Don't you think, we could say this for the synonyms, 'Changing the terms, without the changing the meaning' as well?
So far, so optimistic. Let's ruin the party, with some darker shades.
The Rude Side of Synonymous Words, and Rephrasing for the sake of Content Quantity Boosting
Saw the good side, so you must be wondering about the rude side. If the synonyms and the art of rewording some part of an already publicised content, are used at a low frequency, for a tiny fraction of another content project; it is a respectable win-win situation, for the originator, as well as the creator of the draft-under-construction.
The fine print? Give the credit, and don't base the project solely on the unethical act of unauthorised for-profit duplication.
If the author has provided the social share options, then absolutely no need to worry. It is still a good idea to approach the creator, of the stock content you wish to include in your project. And the community of creative artists, already knows how copyright restrictions, can limit the spirit of creativity, artistic and literary freedoms and the financial survival of their families.
Studios, Albums, Bands, Teams, and Companies have their own set of content reproduction regulations.
From an economics standpoint, if something is of value, it should be exchanged by capturing a part of that value, in material terms. For instance, getting financial assistance for being a good writer, poet, designer, actress, actor, model, musician, comic or video blogger.
The freely waived portion, of that value, would be considered a form of goodwill, contributing to the culture, attaining a sense of gratitude and sacrifice of a self-centred attitude.
That's my self-made interpretation, of various books or resources, consumed and absorbed over all these years. Read the news about finance, management, leadership, value-engineering and economics, and you could rewire your consciousness, to escape the clutches of the ancient 'Cost-based Pricing' models, which have hurt the Gross Value Added (GVA) of many nations, for way too long.
While switching back to the synonyms, lazy-writing and the shortsighted over-use of the few too-much-known words; let us conclude with these words:
Imitating the others, for improving your own craft, is the act of Learning, which is Purest activity, in an average human life.
Stealing from the others, without modifying the content with your own beautiful capacities and valuable additions, is not evil, because of 'Cheating the Originator', or something like that;
it is deeply unamusing, since as the creator of any content, be it a comment or a blog / vlog post which shall bear your gorgeous name, in the archives of the web... you have Cheated your own Free All-Curious Soul.
And that's why, consider not using the same verbal etiquettes, in every post; also, avoid misinterpreting the strategy 'repurposing the old content', as a green signal for creating a thousand posts, with nothing unique about them.
I wonder, how do you write? What are your beliefs? Where do you stand on these facets, of the content - consumed, or created?
